Community-Powered Engagement Platform for Local Economies
Product design for a mobile app connecting consumers with local businesses through a gamified feed, coupon rewards, and ESG impact tracking — strengthening local economies while promoting circular economy awareness.
What needed solving
Local businesses lack effective digital channels to engage nearby consumers in a recurring, meaningful way. Existing solutions are either purely transactional (coupon apps), fragmented (per-business loyalty cards), or global-first (social media) — none combine localized discovery, unified rewards, and environmental impact into a single engagement loop. The client needed a mobile experience that makes interacting with local businesses feel as natural and habit-forming as scrolling a social feed.
Rules I worked within
Multi-phase product roadmap — MVP must deliver a complete engagement loop (feed → coupon → reward → badge) without cash wallet or messaging features reserved for later phases.
Dual-audience system — consumer mobile app and a separate business web portal must share a unified design language while serving fundamentally different user needs.
Gamification must drive retention without feeling manipulative — three-layer reward system (engagement points, loyalty points, badges) requires careful behavioral design and clear value hierarchy.
TikTok-inspired wheel carousel feed must feel fluid and habit-forming while supporting business promotions, coupons, and community content in a single radius-based stream.
Measurable outcomes
Designed the full mobile experience from onboarding through feed, wallet, coupons, badges, and ESG dashboard — plus business web portal flows.
Designed a behavioral reward framework — engagement points, loyalty points, and badges — that drives both short-term interaction and long-term retention.
Structured the product into MVP, cash wallet, and advanced features phases — enabling iterative delivery without compromising the core engagement loop.
Mapped 29 user stories and 8 core user flows covering onboarding, feed engagement, coupon redemption, rewards, and ESG tracking.
“The strongest community apps don't just connect people — they create a loop where every interaction rewards the user, benefits a local business, and contributes to a larger purpose. This project proves that gamification, when tied to real-world outcomes, can make local commerce feel as engaging as social media.”
